Trümmelbach Falls is the single biggest open-or-closed question in the valley. The ten glacier waterfalls inside the mountain only run for visitors daily from the beginning of April to the beginning of November, from 09:00 to 17:00, extended to 08:30 to 18:00 in July and August. Adults pay US$21.90 (CHF 18) at the gate, tickets are sold onsite only, and children under 4 are not admitted.
Outside that window the falls are closed entirely, reduced to a trickle under ice through the coldest months. If seeing them is the reason for your trip, book inside the season or accept that you will be looking at a wall of rock. June to October: The Via Ferrata Is Open
The Mürren-Gimmelwald via ferrata runs along the cliff edge with a 90m suspension bridge over the Mürrenbach gorge, about 2.2km long with roughly 400m of altitude change. It is free to use, with equipment rental extra, and it opens on 1 June and closes on 31 October. No other month counts.
In May the anchors are there but the route is out of service, and from November onward it is off the list until the following summer. The Two Closures That Catch People Out
Late autumn on the Mürren side is a maintenance season, and the dates are fixed. The Stechelberg-Gimmelwald-Mürren cableway closes from 19 to 30 October 2026, with a shuttle bus running via Mürren from 08:00 to 18:00 and limited seats. It closes again from 26 April to 7 May 2027.
The Mürren-Allmendhubel funicular closes for longer, from 19 October to 11 December 2026, which takes the flower meadows walk and the sledging start point above Mürren out of reach for most autumn trips. Plan around these weeks rather than through them. A shuttle with limited seats is a poor substitute for a cableway when you are on a day schedule.

May: Green, Wet, Snow Still on the Tops
May is the month of two halves. The valley floor turns green and the trails clear of snow, but the numbers say it is one of the wettest months of the year, averaging 213mm of precipitation against July's 214mm. The average daily high of 15.7C is pleasant for walking.
The catches are at the edges: the via ferrata does not open until 1 June, and the Stechelberg-Mürren cableway closes for maintenance from 26 April to 7 May 2027, which would affect a trip in that first week. Trümmelbach is running from the beginning of April, so the waterfalls are at full volume after the melt builds. Pack for rain and treat May as a green-valley month rather than a summit month, with the Jungfraujoch Good Morning discount (20% off the first two connections) available from 1 May if you want an early summit attempt.
September and October: The Clearest Trade
Many returning visitors rate September and early October the best months in Lauterbrunnen, and the record backs them up. September averages a daily high of 18.1C with 156mm of precipitation, a clear step down from August's 209mm. From the beginning of November to the beginning of April, Trümmelbach Falls is closed. That is the headline change, and for many visitors it removes the main reason they came, so decide honestly before booking a winter trip. What stays open is a full winter destination in its own right.
The trains to Wengen and Grindelwald run, the Schilthorn cableway runs, and the Jungfrau Ski Region opens its season on 1 December 2026 and runs to 30 April 2027, with only weekend or partial operation possible in November depending on snow. The One Date Worth Building a Trip Around
Most of the year Lauterbrunnen has no fixed-date events that should steer your booking. The exception is the Lauberhorn. The 97th edition of the International Lauberhorn Races runs in Wengen from 15 to 17 January 2027, with the super-G on the Friday, the downhill on the Saturday and the slalom on the Sunday.
Tickets go on sale online from 2 November 2026. It is the oldest and longest downhill on the World Cup circuit, and Wengen, one train stop up the valley from Lauterbrunnen, fills up for the weekend. If you want the atmosphere, book rooms and tickets the day they are released.

Booking by Season
The e-bike and minibus tours both include or stop at Trümmelbach, so they only make sense inside the April-to-early-November falls season. The Schilthorn ticket and the Grindelwald First gondola are lift tickets that run year-round subject to each cableway's own maintenance calendar.
