Jungfraujoch Tickets: Prices, Fares and How to Buy

The from-price is a teaser, not a fare

The jungfrau.ch prices and tickets page lists the headline as Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe from US$157.50 (CHF 129.60). That is the lowest fare class shown anywhere on the page. No fare specifically labelled from Lauterbrunnen appears anywhere on it.

The prices shown are from-prices for the destination, not an origin-specific fare table, and the page itself never publishes a fixed Lauterbrunnen-to-Jungfraujoch adult return figure. The full adult return from Lauterbrunnen is higher, and it changes with the date you travel. If you read CHF 129.60 as the price you will pay at the window in Lauterbrunnen, you will be wrong.

Use the price calculator for your real figure

The only reliable way to get the actual fare for your travel day is the price calculator on the official prices page. Enter your origin and your date and it returns the real number. Fares are date-priced, so the same round trip can cost more on a peak summer Saturday than on a wet Tuesday in the shoulder season.

Build your budget around the calculator output, not the from-price, and re-run it if your plans shift by even a day.

The Good Morning discount, inside a fixed window

One genuine way to cut the fare is the Good Morning ticket. It takes 20% off the first two connections of the day. That discount applies only between 1 May and 31 October 2026.

Outside that window the rules differ, and the official page does not state what they become, so check jungfrau.ch directly if you travel in winter. If you can take an early train, this is the cheapest legitimate discount on the fare that the operator publishes, and it stacks with nothing else on this page.

A cheaper destination on the same railway

If the Jungfraujoch price for your date stings, the same prices page sells a different destination on the same railway for much less: Kleine Scheidegg - Top of Hiking from US$49.30 (CHF 40.60). Kleine Scheidegg is the pass at 2,061 m where every Jungfraujoch passenger changes trains, and it is a proper hiking hub in its own right. Do not confuse the two: this is a separate, cheaper destination, not a Jungfraujoch discount or a partial ticket.

The CHF 10 seat reservation

The seat reservation costs US$12.15 (CHF 10). The official prices page describes it as a guaranteed time slot for your journey to the Jungfraujoch, with no waiting time when changing trains at Eigergletscher. That is all it promises.

The word mandatory does not appear anywhere on the jungfrau.ch prices page, which was checked by full-text search. So treat it the way the operator implies you should: recommended in good weather, when demand spikes and queues at Eigergletscher can eat an hour of your summit time. On a bad-weather day, when the crowds thin out, you can reasonably skip it.

If you book the Lauterbrunnen round-trip ticket, the seat reservation from Kleine Scheidegg to Jungfraujoch is already included, so you do not pay the CHF 10 again.

Jungfrau Travel Pass

The Jungfrau Travel Pass runs 3 to 8 days and includes boats on the region's lakes. It starts at US$200.50 (CHF 165). The critical catch: the Jungfraujoch fare is not fully included.

Pass holders typically still pay for a section of the Jungfraujoch journey, and the exact residual fare is not stated on the prices page, so verify it in the price calculator before you assume the pass pays for this trip. Unlimited Jungfrau Summer Pass and Winter Pass

The Unlimited Jungfrau Summer Pass starts at US$545.60 (CHF 449) and runs from 3 April to 29 November 2026. The Unlimited Jungfrau Winter Pass starts at US$484.90 (CHF 399) and runs from 1 December 2026 to 30 April 2027. These are for visitors riding the railways repeatedly across their validity window.

If you are in Lauterbrunnen for one day trip to the Jungfraujoch and nothing else on the railways, neither pass will pay for itself against a single return fare. The route your fare buys

From Lauterbrunnen the journey uses the Wengernalpbahn, the world's longest continuous rack and pinion railway, full line opened in 1893, up to Kleine Scheidegg. There you change to the Jungfrau Railway, opened in 1912, which runs 9 km almost entirely in tunnel through the Eiger and Mönch to the 3,454 m station, the highest railway station in Europe. The Eiger Express gondola is a separate, Grindelwald-side route that reaches the Jungfraujoch in 45 minutes.

It is not relevant to a Lauterbrunnen departure, so ignore it when pricing this trip.
